Landscaping the Front Entrance

We need your help to raise funds to landscape the front entrance! We have estimated around $300 per side. Dues for the whole year is only $20 per household. Please contact me at criskolo822@hotmail.com of your block captain to collect the money (cash preferred). We will post all money received and how it was spent on this site. We also need volunteers! I am planning on a small gathering at the front sign this week-end to fine tune any concerns and answer questions. It would be a great time to collect dues. Please, help us spread the word by telling other neighbors that haven't come to the meetings. This would really raise the value of ALL our homes, and would really benefit all those currently trying to sell their homes!

Push Lawn Mower Tune-ups offered

Annual UD push lawnmower tune-up planned April 17-18
4:29 p.m., April 1, 2009----Looking to save a little money on your lawn care in these tight financial times? The University of Delaware's Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity for agriculture, the Society of Automotive Engineers Club and the Engineering Technology Club are once again offering a push lawn mower tune-up service on April 17-18, rain or shine.

Since 2000, this annual event has serviced more than 4,000 push mowers.

The tune-up -- provided by trained students and alumni members of the clubs -- includes an oil change, spark plug replacement, air filter check and cleaning, blade sharpening, and power washing. The cost is $35, the same as it has been for the past four years.

Drop off times are from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.

Customers can pick up their mowers on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. for the first 300 mowers taken on Friday, or on Sunday, April 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., for the remaining mowers. All mowers must be picked up by 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Lawnmowers -- push lawnmowers only; no riding mowers -- may be dropped off and picked up in the parking lot behind Worrilow and Townsend halls on UD's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources campus at 531 South College Avenue, across from the Chrysler Plant, just north of the Fred Rust Ice Arena. Look for signs for the tune-up.

For more information, call the AGR Fraternity at (302) 837-3379 or send e-mail to [yost@udel.edu].

New Link Added for Nuisance Animal Control

Hello All,

If you encounter problems with some wildlife, I have found a resource. Snakes, raccoons, nuisance birds, squirrels, bats and the like are not managed by SPCA Animal Control. I had a starling get into my first floor ceiling via exhaust fan vent on the back of the house. I found Mid-Atlantic Wildlife Control and was able to humanely remove the bird. The business owner is also a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator for injured/orphaned animals. The link to the web site is under "Helpful Links". Mid-Atlantic is a private, fee-for-service enterprise.

I will also add Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research in case of injured/orphaned baby birds. Tri-State is a local non-profit famous for treating birds after oil spills, among other things. Spring is coming and so are the babies.

We also need volunteers! Here is a draft of a possible design. Please leave your opinion, ideas and if you are willing to help by commenting in this post.

How your neighbors affect your home's value and vice versa.

We talked about this in our last meeting, and I found this article with a video from ABC news. I thought it would be interesting to share it.

And this is then Entrance by the pond.

Reflective Vests

I feel reflective vests are a must for all walkers. I will go to Walmart tomorrow morning to pick up a few. We can have the vests and the walkie talkies handed off from one pair of walkers to the next as a way to have contact with each person starting out and finishing up a shift.

Just another safety measure.

Rachel
